What is Memory Care for seniors?

Memory Care is a long-term care plan provided at either a senior living community with other levels of care or at a stand-alone Memory Care facility.

A person with dementia will reside in a Memory Care community as the disease progresses if they are no longer able to live safely at home or need more medical care than what’s provided in home care from family caregivers or nurses.

At [COMMUNITY NAME], we provide a personalized dementia care plan to every wonderful resident in our Memory Care neighborhood, along with services and amenities that help them thrive. Learn more about our unique approach, below.

We believe in letting the good things grow. With our unique, research-based approach to Memory Care, Flourish℠ programming promises to cultivate love, nurture purpose, and fiercely preserve the dignity of those who are facing memory loss.
Guided by this philosophy, residents at [COMMUNITY NAME] benefit from a comprehensive program led by team members specially trained in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, provided only by Charter Senior Living.

Flourish℠ allows us to practice compassion and advocate courageously for your loved one. Experience the difference of our care, today.

Whether your loved one is in the early stage of dementia or late stages of the disease, our community is equipped to handle it all with specialized dementia and Alzheimer’s programming.

Signs of early-stage Alzheimer’s include forgetting names, repetition, and struggling to find the right words to describe feelings. Signs of late-stage Alzheimer’s may include little to no communication, loss of mobility, incontinence, and the inability to eat or dress. Throughout the different stages of dementia, residents may also experience something called frontotemporal dementia – a disorder caused by damage to neurons in the brain.

No matter what your loved one is going through, our experts will help. Dementia and Alzheimer’s look different for every family. That’s why we created a unique program in Flourish℠ – to personalize care exactly to your loved one’s needs.

Our Memory Care residences are built for safety and accessibility. Residents feel comfortable in a home that allows them to make the most of each day, and we can work together with families to customize surroundings to fit their needs.

Family caregivers can worry less knowing that with 24/7 security, their loved one will be free to explore inside and outside their home without the possibility of wandering.

Discover which floor plan makes the most sense for your loved one, and take the first step to feeling the difference of our community.

FlourishSM goes beyond assisting with daily personal tasks and health care services. With specialized activities made for those with memory loss, [COMMUNITY NAME] engages Memory Care residents in ways that make every moment count and preserve dignity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost of memory care?

The higher level of care and supervision in an Alzheimer’s residential care home comes at a price. On average, Assisted Living costs $4,000 a month, and Memory Care adds another $1,000 to $4,000 a month. Costs vary state to state and are impacted by the level of care provided.

Our monthly rates start at [$X,XXX].

How can I decide between assisted living and memory care?

Assisted Living and Memory Care senior living communities provide many of the same services,  including housing; meals; and help with bathing, grooming and toileting. However, Memory Care communities or neighborhoods specialize in caring for seniors with all stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. In Memory Care communities, environmental security is a key design feature.

To prevent wandering, many communities are equipped with locked entrances and exits, as well as keypad entries, obscured exits, and doorbells signaling entering and exiting. To avoid injuries from falls, dementia care communities feature designs that minimize confusion. In addition, they offer calming therapies in soothing spaces. This can help reduce agitation and confusion that can lead to aggression or self-injury.

The staff members in dementia care communities are also specially trained in care planning for those living with memory loss. The staff understands how to effectively prevent and manage difficult dementia behaviors. They also understand the balance of encouraging residents to stay as independent as possible while providing the support they need. Many communities, including Charter, have a higher staff-to-resident ratio than Assisted Living, which allows for more one-on-one attention throughout the day.

Does Medicare cover memory care?

Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans generally will not pay for room and board or personal care in a Memory Care community. Memory Care will, however, pay for the medical care the facility provides. Veterans benefits typically help cover the cost for eligible Veterans and surviving spouses who are over age 65.

Is dementia care right for my loved one?

When considering moving your loved one to a senior living community that specializes in dementia care and Alzheimer’s disease, there is much to consider.

  • Are they in the early stage of the disease, or do they need the long-term care provided in nursing homes?
  • Will they have the support they need?
  • Will they be safe, happy and content?
